Dated 1844, this hand carved mortar and pestle has a familiar pinwheel design. The book l'outil by Paul Feller/Fernand Tourret has a similar pinwheel design on a wood plane dating to 1650. Though we have come across a number of carved mortar's, the majority of the the matching pestle's are missing which makes this one rather special. The mortar and pestle is also very large, standing 11.25 inches tall with the pestle at a length of approximately 15". A fantastic artifact that will give any collection or shelf a distinctly charming appeal.
