THIS ITEM IS SOLD Circa Early 1700's Hand Forged and Decorated extremely large right handed Goosewing Axe. The cutting edge is 15.75" long. Two nice maker's marks which look to be a type of Evergreen tree with three stars leading out, with additional decorations including a cross surrounded by four arches. This cross surrounded with garlands is a christian sign frequently found on broad axes and goosewing axes of this period. Also has a tree of life with multiple stars surrounding it, towards the left bottom of axe. Great original solid wood handle which has a crack the length of the handle and does not affect the strength of the handle. Beautiful example of an early vintage Black Smith decorated axe probably from Griffen, Carinthia. Great piece for the office or home wall or private collection.
