An extremely rare late 17th century "incised" line decorated American
wrought iron fireplace pot or kettle pusher. New England, probably
Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1660-1700. Great early piece of American 17th
Century iron. These were used primarily to push hot vessels on the
hearth or to push coals back into the fire area because of their very
use. Very few of these early pieces have survived. When you do find one
it is usually very plain in very good condition. the great pusher
although simple in form IS HIGHLY DECORATED WITH INCISED LINES. X'S AND
V'S. This design is similar to the MASS BAY early pieces this one was
never made with feet. Great peened construction. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY
RARE PIECE OF DECORATED 17TH CENTURY AMERICAN WROUGHT IRON.
