Circa 1700's pewter engraved deep dish plate or bowl with elaborately engrave portrait of a man in Baroque costume. The piece also has a definite maker's mark F.P. Escher, Karlsbad on the underside of the rim. Karlsbad (German) or Carlsbad (English) is the traditional name for the city and spa city Karlovy Vary (or Carlovy Vary) situated in western Bohemia, Czech Republic, on the confluence of the rivers Ohře and Teplá, approximately 130 km (80.78 miles) west of Prague. It is named after King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, who founded the city in 1370. It is in very nice worn aged condition and definitely a very fine engraving. Would make a great display item. Extremely large and hard to find pewter platter.
