THIS ITEM IS SOLD - Circa mid 1700's heavy brass pharmaceutical mortar and pestle. This is a handsome larger brass mortar with pestle. Covered heavily with aged patina. We have tried to retain the patina while lightly cleaning. The name Emlekul Szulryrdnspodra is stamped in the Mortar. Also Junius 14. Our research Shows this name to be Hungarian and the dates 1759 and 1741 came up. The translation to English mean "in remembrance of your birthday.
We don't know if he ever entered the United States or remained in Hungary. But truly a unique piece of History. One can only imagine the concoctions and portents that were created in these ancient pieces of medical/pharmaceutical history.
